Christopher Serrone, FNP

Christopher Serrone, FNP, joined Warner Family Practice / Apricus Medical Group in March 2022.

Christopher Serrone’s Story

Christopher was born in Kansas City, Missouri. His father was in the Marine Corps, so he grew up in El Toro Marine Air Station in Irvine, California, and Naval Air Station in Memphis, Tennessee.

His childhood was filled with diversity as a Marine dependent because Christopher’s friends came from various ethnic backgrounds. They grew up being told they were all green kids because they were Marine kids.

During his military service, the gunner was grazed. Christopher told him jokes on the helicopter from the medical evacuation to the hospital. The combat medic told him that he was a natural at keeping people calm and relaxed during medical emergencies. The truth was Christopher had limited medical experience and no idea how serious the injuries were, he just wanted to take the gunner’s mind off the situation.

Christopher has always had an interest in helping others. At first, he thought he wanted to be in the psychiatric field of medicine, but as he researched medical treatments, his interests grew more toward family practice.

“The most rewarding part of practicing medicine is being able to help people improve and optimize their health and well-being from a holistic perspective, regardless of where they are on the wellness to illness continuum.”

When he sees things about a patient’s health that could be better, Christopher offers his advice. He always tells them this is his advice, that preventative care will positively impact their lives and they are free to choose. When they understand that what is needed, in most cases, is small and moderate changes, they work with him to meet their personal goals and achieve optimal health and a better quality of life.

“When I see my patients address their concerns by working out a plan of care they agree to and can move forward on, that is my definition of success. I meet my patients where they are and work with them to move towards where they want to be on the wellness to illness continuum.”

There is no judgment from Christopher because he is but a facilitator. He lets his patients know that he was a Marine dependent, a soldier, and now a nurse. First and foremost, his patients need to know that the body, mind, and spirit always seek to return to homeostasis, and Christopher merely has the training to help the natural pathways find their way back. No one got where they are overnight, and likewise, time is needed to undo what was done. Nothing in the past can be changed, so let’s move forward as a team from where you are.

Christopher believes laughter is the best medicine. Don’t take your life too seriously. Trust in God who places all of us in life to teach specific lessons. Sometimes we all need to remember to live, laugh, and love on our journey, for we are all seeking to be in balance.

One aspect of life outside of work that Christopher places a high priority on is balance. He spends as much time with his family as he can, especially his children. He exercises daily by walking, swimming, and practicing Brazilian Jiujitsu. He meets his spiritual needs through prayer, meditation, and reading scripture. Recreation is part of the balancing act so Christopher travels with his family, mostly to be in nature via camping.
