CPX

CPX stands for Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing. This test measures how your body responds to stress and develop a personalized exercise plan to maximize fitness training.

Exercise is a good thing and is vital to a healthy lifestyle. Heart disease continues to be a leading cause of death in the United States and good nutrition and exercise gives you the best opportunity to prevent heart disease.

Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing

Cardiopulmonary exercise testing, or CPX for short, measures how your body responds against stress and exercise. During testing, patients are on a seated recumbent bike while being monitored with specialized equipment which gathers information about your heart and lungs.

At the end of the test, which lasts approximately 45 minutes, the test is reviewed by a cardiologist before being reviewed by your provider and the end result is an in-depth look at the condition of your heart and lungs.

The results include an exercise prescription that allows you to begin your conditioning program. This will optimize your time and energy spent in conditioning. This exercise prescription can be simple or complex depending on your level of conditioning. Warner Family Practice has a goal to get patients moving toward a healthier lifestyle.

Who Is Right for CPX?

While anyone can benefit from the results delivered through CPX there are two groups of individuals we recommend strongly to consider participating in the CPX testing.

Individuals who have not been able to exercise will learn some simple ways to get up and start moving again and make small changes towards being better conditioned.

The second group of individuals who should consider CPX are athletes who desire an edge in the preparation for competition.

This test is a part of our comprehensive physical and is covered by insurance if you have certain diagnosis. Of course, we realize today that many services go to deductible. Warner Family Practice is able to do payment plans through our Secure Bill Pay Program. If you do not have a qualifying diagnosis, we offer the test at a cash price.

Learn More About CPX

We have put together a series of short videos with Dr. Turner, Medical Director at Warner Family Practice, describing in greater detail the process of CPX, what is involved and what to expect when your provider prescribes a test or you pursue the test on your own.
