<\/p>\nThis past December and January, Dr. Turner took a well deserved vacation and got to enjoy some time traveling and being in the outdoors. He is now back in the office, working with patients participating in hormone replacement therapy, but he wanted to share a\u00a0bit about his trip. Here are a few standout moments from Dr. Turner\u2019s vacation.<\/p>\n
My first trip was a fishing expedition to a lake in Mexico with some of my very dear friends. We were catching and releasing largemouth bass, but we wanted to make it more interesting. We each threw $20 into a morning pot; whoever caught the biggest fish would get the pot. We did the same thing again in the afternoon. At the end of the trip, I won $240. It didn\u2019t quite pay for the trip, but it sure was a lot of fun!<\/p>\n
Another interesting part of our trip was the location of the lake. It was located in a small Mexican village. So small, in fact, that nearly everyone in the village knew when travelers came into town. This town had no building for the airport, just a paved landing strip. When our plane landed, there were probably 100-150 people waiting to see who was visiting their village. I\u2019m not sure who they were expecting, but they were sure surprised when we showed up.<\/p>\n
The president of the village had rallied the people to come out and thanked us for supporting their local economy. She wanted to assure us that their security was top notch and any issues from the past have been taken care. We even had the press take a picture of us!<\/p>\n
In December, we went to New York City, Susan and I along with Ryan and a friend of his, celebrated New Year\u2019s and Ryan\u2019s 41st birthday. When you\u2019ve visited New York City, friends and family always ask, \u201cDid you go to Times Square?\u201d We wanted this trip to be a bit more low key.<\/p>\n
As we made our way through the city, it was clear that Time Square was definitely the hot spot for New Year\u2019s – a lot of security. About two blocks out from Time\u2019s Square, there were dump trucks with sand blocking the road. Visitors had to go through an initial checkpoint and then walk a block to get to Times Square for another checkpoint. Police were everywhere, fully armed and ready for anything. It must have been the safest place on earth that day.<\/p>\n
There really is nothing like spending New Year\u2019s in New York City.<\/p>\n
The next stop was to the nation’s capital with my son, Chad. While we were in D.C., we hired a driver to tour the city but, in keeping with political themes of the past 18 months, there was a massive march happening from the Washington Monument to the White House. That meant that roads were blocked and we couldn\u2019t get around. Not sure how we planned this trip.<\/p>\n
After trying to maneuver our way through the city, our driver finally suggested we go to Mt. Vernon which was about 14 miles outside the city. Mt. Vernon is the home and burial place of George and Martha Washington and their relatives.<\/p>\n
While standing outside the crypt, taking in the history, there was a little girl standing in front of me and my son. I would estimate that she was in the 3rd grade, and she was asking the most incredible questions. While talking to her father, he shared that she has an incredible interest in history. With how well she was prepared with her questions, it came as no surprise.<\/p>\n
One of the elements of practicing medicine that you never give much thought to before you become a health professional, is travel. Every year I travel to meet various specialists, attend conventions and continue to grow my education, even as a retired doctor.<\/p>\n
As fantastic as traveling for work can be and all the things you experience, it is always a joy when the opportunity arrives to travel for pleasure. Experiences, like those I shared here, renew my excitement for what we are doing at Warner Family Practice and help me return with a refreshed perspective, ready to lead our staff and team into the next steps for our office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
