We all want to lighten up as the warm weather approaches; clean out our closets; wear lighter, breathable clothing and, of course, lose weight. A detox program is ideal for the Spring time of year as it helps you rid your body of toxins, identify food sensitivities, reduce belly bloat and dramatically increase energy levels!

Oh and did I mention start the weight loss process?

There is no debating that each of us is, to some degree, toxic. We are exposed to toxins as a function of daily living. The foods we eat, air we breathe and water we consume all expose us to toxins that our body stores in our fat tissue. Detoxing involves reducing the amount of toxins you are exposed, by eating clean AND at the same time supporting the body in its ability to rid itself of the toxins. Neither of these steps will optimize detoxification on their own. They need to be done in unison.

Eating clean involves an elimination diet so that you are putting less “junk” (i.e. toxins) into your body; and a well-designed medical food containing key ingredients to help the liver (the ‘detoxifying” organ) make the toxins into compounds that are easier to remove. All of this is done over a 10-day period , under my guidance and with my support. Interestingly, the liver, our detoxifying organ is also the organ involved in fat metabolism. So any program that nourishes the liver puts you in ideal condition to start shedding body fat.

People who have gone through clinically approved detox programs typically report: more energy, less food cravings (especially sugar); more stable appetite, even mood, clear thinking and flatter stomachs…(did anyone say bathing suit season??)

Now, don’t confuse a metabolic detox with a “cleanse.” Cleanses generally rest the GI tract and bowel and limit food to 1 or 2 categories in an effort to reduce the load of toxins you are putting in your system. While many people may initially feel better after a “cleanse” what they don’t realize is that the cleanse itself may actually deplete the body of vital nutrients and energy to support the natural detox process. Eliminating the body of toxins is hard work and it is imperative to give the body what it needs to do the job thoroughly.
