So, tell me if this sounds familiar…

You’ve been up since 6 AM. You got the kids to school, yourself to work, stopped at the store on your way home, made dinner, cleaned up and checked homework. Its 10 PM and you should be asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow, right? Your body is exhausted but your brain won’t turn off!

So, does that sound familiar?

Believe it or not there is actually a name for this ‘struggle’ and the fact that it has a name means you are not alone in the struggle.

This is called “tired and wired.” I had heard the term before and took notice. The tired and wired condition is something I’ve experienced and it’s horrible. There is also added anxiety that overcomes you as you lay awake thinking, “I’m gonna be so tired again tomorrow” and drifting further away from actually falling asleep.

Like I said, my experience has been horrible – but I’ve only dealt with it from time to time. For those who have chronic difficulty falling asleep, it may seem like there is no hope.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to ending the tired and wired cycle, which is why having a family practice you trust available as a resource, is helpful. It is truly in your best interest to seek the expertise of a medical or health professional if this describes your experience.

While “knowing” that tired and wired is a real thing and impacts real people, you may be looking for a quick fix. The Huffington Post has a great article about true rest, which I thought might be helpful because it’s a game changer in respect to our mental approach to sleep. You can click here to launch the story.

You know how I mentioned above having a health or medical professional as a resource is your best way to start overcoming difficulty falling asleep? Well, I just want you to know that I am that resource for you. If you have any questions that I might be able to answer, please reply to this email… you don’t have to feel helpless, or worse, subservient to the notion of “this is just how it is for me.”
