Maybe you fall asleep when your head hits the pillow but like clockwork, you wake up sometime between 2 and 5 AM and can’t fall back to sleep.<\/p>\n

Is your sleep interrupted because you wake up to urinate?<\/p>\n

Does a noise, slight or loud, wake you up?<\/p>\n

Does it seem like you just \u201copen\u201d your eyes at the same time every night?<\/p>\n

Do you toss and turn and\/or wake up sweaty and feeling gross?<\/p>\n

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, you’ll be interested to know that we describe this as “fitful sleep.”<\/p>\n

So what causes fitful sleep?<\/h3>\n

There is a range of factors that contribute to fitful sleep but they all boil down to a few areas of life that are familiar to many of us. Emotional distress, hormonal fluctuations, foods and beverages, medications and a less-than-desirable sleeping environment all contribute to those miserable hours between 2 and 5 AM.<\/p>\n

What do you do about fitful sleep?<\/h3>\n

Some solutions to fitful sleep will be more apparent than others. Looking at the list of causes in the previous paragraph, you may easily identify those issues that are relevant to you. However, like difficulty falling asleep, seeking the advice and instruction of a health professional can bring great clarity to your unique situation and provide tactics for conquering fitful sleep.<\/p>\n
