Employee Health Screenings and Physicals
Employee health screenings are gaining in popularity among employers, with employees often incentivized or even required to participate as a prerequisite to their employment.
Employee health screenings are typically part of a larger program that provide significant benefits to participating employees and their employers. Participants receive updated status on the current state of their health, making them aware of potential health issues. In addition, when screenings detect current treatable conditions, doctors and physicians can recommend a treatment plan before those conditions become chronic or severe.
Employers directly benefit from screenings by seeing reductions in their health care costs (healthier employees), as well as increased productivity from their workforce and fewer absences.
When to Get Your Employee Health Screening Scheduled
January is often the best and easiest time to schedule employee health screenings, as many employers will request two screenings per employee per year. Having your screening early in the year is a benefit to you as well as your employer.
When you have your employee health screening in January you create a baseline that shows where you started. Combine your January screening results with your mid-year appointment and you will begin to see trends develop. You will see the positive impact of the changes you made earlier in the year, and give your provider an opportunity to make recommended health treatments that you can plan for before the end of the year in order to maximize your deductible.
Who Pays for Employee Health Screenings?
If your employer requires employee participation in employee health screenings, there is a good chance that those with health insurance through their job will not have to pay anything.
However, as we’ve seen over the past several years, insurance and healthcare have become increasingly complex. As a result, Warner Family Practice recommends that patients regularly consult with their insurance carrier if they have questions about their payment responsibility for any given screening, treatment or procedure.
If you have any questions about your current insurance coverage and in-network availability, please contact your insurance carrier with the name of your provider as well as our office.
